  • What does the “BPA and BPS Free” Icon on your packaging mean?

The chemical bisphenol-A (BPA) is widely known to be a hormone disrupter. Acting like an estrogen imposter, BPA has been linked to cancer, type 2 diabetes, depression, heart disease and a number of other ailments. BPA can be especially dangerous in pregnancy, infancy and childhood – so much so that many governments around the world have banned BPA in the production of baby bottles (as well as other products).

The chemical bisphenol-S (BPS) is used as a plasticizer by some manufacturers and, in many cases, has been used to replace BPA. BPS is also a hormone disrupter, but is currently allowed for the production of baby bottles and similar products.

Because safety is a top priority for Lansinoh, we have taken proactive measures to ensure our Lansinoh® mOmma® bottles with NaturalWave® Nipples are BPA and BPS free.

Additionally, all our products that may come in contact with breastmilk are BPA and BPS free, as well as our mOmma® toddler line. This includes:

    • Lansinoh® HPA® Lanolin
    • Lansinoh® Clean & Condition Baby wipes
    • Lansinoh® Signature ProTM Double Electric Breast Pump
    • Lansinoh® Manual Breast Pump
    • Lansinoh® Breastmilk Storage Bags

    • Lansinoh® mOmma® Spill-Proof Cup
    • Lansinoh® mOmma® Straw Cup
    • Lansinoh® mOmma® Warming Plate

Is Lansinoh® Breastmilk Storage Bags BPA and BPS Free?

Yes! Because safety is a top priority for Lansinoh, we have taken proactive measures to ensure Lansinoh® Breastmilk Storage Bags is both BPA and BPS Free.

Can I pump directly into the Lansinoh® Breastmilk Storage Bags?

Because Lansinoh® Breastmilk Storage Bags have a double zipper closure, they will not fit securely on the pump so you cannot pump directly into them.

What if my milk smells rotten when I thaw it?

According to the La Leche League’s “Breastfeeding Question and Answer” book: In rare cases, some mothers who have meticulously expressed and frozen their milk for later use have discovered that all their frozen milk has turned rancid (spoiled).  This happens when a mother produces milk that is high in lipase, the enzyme that breaks down fat in the milk. Depending upon the level of lipase in her milk, some mothers notice this rancid smell after their milk has cooled in the refrigerator; others notice it only after the milk has been frozen for a while.

It is suggested that every mother who is planning to freeze her milk should test freeze some batches and thaw it out after a week or so to be sure it has not become rancid.  If it smells rancid, she may need to scald the milk before freezing in the future to deactivate the lipase in her milk.  If the mother finds that after freezing and thawing her milk that it has a rancid smell, she can prevent this from occurring in the future by heating her expressed milk to a scald (bubbling around the edges but not boiling) right after collecting it and then quickly cooling and freezing it.  Scalding inactivates the lipase, however once the milk has acquired the rancid smell, scalding will not help.

For steps on how to address possible lipase issues, consult La Leche League International or visit www.ILCA.org to find a Lactation Consultant in your area.

What is the best way to freeze breastmilk storage bags?

We recommend lying the storage bags flat to freeze them. You can put the breastmilk storage bags directly into the freezer, but because plastic can sometimes stick to the freezer rack (especially if it is slightly wet) we recommend placing the bags in some type of container, such as a plastic storage container, or even a Ziploc® freezer bag.  This will also protect the bags from contact with other frozen items.

    Are your bags recyclable?

Yes, they fall under the LDPE #4 recyclable classifications that include merchandise bags and pharmaceutical packaging.

What type of plastic is used for your bags?

Lansinoh® Breastmilk Storage Bags are 100% virgin plastic and contain no plasticizers.  They are made of FDA approved Food Grade LDPE (low density polyethylene) and LLDPE (linear low density polyethylene) that are three milliliters thick.

LOTS OF LOST "LIQUID GOLD" WITH THESE BAGS...

    By

    from South Carolina

Comments about Lansinoh Breastmilk Storage Bags:

I was so excited to get these bags as a second-time mom, realizing they were half the price and twice the size of bags I used with our first child. The bags are large, although a little flimsy, with a double lock closure. They stored my milk well, but during the "defrost" stage (which consisted of setting the bags in a bowl on the kitchen counter until thawed enough to put in a bottle), milk would leak out of the bags and into the bowl! There were holes in random spots or milk leaking at the seams. The other day, for example, I realized a hole was in the bottom of the bag, so I flipped the bag upside down. The double-lock closures did not hold and, just like that, 7 ozs. of breastmilk spilled to the floor. I know they say "don't cry over spilled milk" but I wanted to. I have had similar experiences with the more expensive bags as well. There just needs to be a better bag out there! Good luck!!!

    Bags Leaked!

    By

    from South Florida

Comments about Lansinoh Breastmilk Storage Bags:

I use the bags to atore and freeze breast milk. I had been happy with their performance until one day I was not home and my husband was home with the baby. As he prepared the frozen milk for use, the bag leaked into the the water it was being warmed up in! 6 ounces lost! This did not nust happen once but twice! I am now worried that it will happen again. I would not have written this review if it was one time.

    Leaky bags!!!

    By

    from Ga

Comments about Lansinoh Breastmilk Storage Bags:

I will never purchase these bags again. I have lost so much milk. And to someone that can barely keep up with her son, that is a horrible thing. About every 3 bags thawed, they leak. I thought it was because I thawed under hot water, so I tried in a bowl in the fridge, on the counter, etc. no matter how I try, they all leak. I have now had to resolve to thawing in a bowl so that the milk doesn't get all in my refrigerator again (all 6 oz). I would not waste my money on them and they definitely don't get a star at all, didn't have a choice but to give at least 1 star.

Do not buy this product. Choose a different brand.

    By

Comments about Lansinoh Breastmilk Storage Bags:

The bags leak and are not dependable at all. We all know how precious breastmilk is, and how much time it takes to pump and store the milk. When I cut back freedings, I continued to pump and store my milk in the Lasinoh storage bags. Now, as I am thawing them they are continuously leaking and diminishing the supply that I woke up in the middle of the night for months to save up for! I'm so disappointed in this product. :(

Comments about Lansinoh Breastmilk Storage Bags:

This was my first time using this brand of bags. In the past I have always used Medela and loved them. Needless to say, I will never buy these bags again. I have thrown out over 20 bags because they have leaked.

Comments about Lansinoh Breastmilk Storage Bags:

I've frozen all of my breast milk in these bags and am regretting every second of it. We have had leaking bags from the start. 1 out of 3 bags are leaking so we have to thaw using a bowl. We will never purchase again. Rated a 1 star because it didn't let me choose anything else.
