What does the “BPA and BPS Free” Icon on your packaging mean?
The chemical bisphenol-A (BPA) is widely known to be a hormone disrupter. Acting like an estrogen imposter, BPA has been linked to cancer, type 2 diabetes, depression, heart disease and a number of other ailments. BPA can be especially dangerous in pregnancy, infancy and childhood – so much so that many governments around the world have banned BPA in the production of baby bottles (as well as other products).
The chemical bisphenol-S (BPS) is used as a plasticizer by some manufacturers and, in many cases, has been used to replace BPA. BPS is also a hormone disrupter, but is currently allowed for the production of baby bottles and similar products.
Because safety is a top priority for Lansinoh, we have taken proactive measures to ensure our Lansinoh® mOmma® bottles with NaturalWave® Nipples are BPA and BPS free.

Yes! Because safety is a top priority for Lansinoh, we have taken proactive measures to ensure Lansinoh® Disposable Nursing Pads and Ultra-Soft Disposable Nursing Pads is both BPA and BPS Free.
Can I sleep with the pads in my bra?
Yes, many mothers find our Disposable Nursing Pads very absorbent, especially at night. We recommend is that you change the pads during the night if they become saturated.
There was gel on my breast when I went to feed my baby, what is it?
Lansinoh® Nursing Pads are so absorbent because they contain Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP), a fine powder within the pad’s material. When the pad absorbs breastmilk, the powder turns into a gel, and it might have leaked from the pad onto your skin. This could happen when it was saturated with breastmilk, possibly after a particularly big letdown or after wearing the pad for many hours.
You might try changing your pad more frequently - it may not seem as though you are leaking a lot of milk because our pads are so absorbent, but this is sometimes the case. Alternatively, the pad could have been torn or ripped prior to using it and the polymer gel got on your skin. There’s no need for concern because the gel is non-toxic.
My baby chewed on a pad and gel came out—what should I do?
The material used to absorb the breastmilk is a Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP). It is similar to what is in baby diapers; it starts as a powder and turns into a gel when it absorbs liquid. While SAP is non-toxic, it is not meant for ingestion.
If you think your baby ingested some of the polymer, contact your doctor and/or your local Poison Control Center. If your doctor needs any information from Lansinoh®, we can help and can be contacted at 800-292-4794 from 8am – 5pm EST.
What makes Lansinoh® Disposable Nursing Pads so absorbent?
The Lansinoh® nursing pad has a “fluffy pulp” mixed with a Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP) in the form of a powder. Similar to a diaper, it starts as a powder and then turns to a gel when it absorbs liquid. This mixture is sandwiched between layers of paper tissue, and a non-woven fabric is then placed over the tissue to provide a stay-dry lining.
This lining draws breastmilk and moisture away from the skin and into the core of the pad. The layers of tissue surrounding the polymer further ensure that the moisture is locked within the core. This unique action keeps both the mother’s skin and her clothing dry.
