Swelling while pumping

Question:

Why are my breasts swollen when I have tried to pump?

Answer:

Isabella,

Thank you for reaching out to Lansinoh. If you are experiencing swelling of the breasts or nipples after you have pumped, this could be a sign that the flanges for your pump aren’t fitting you properly. When your nipple is pulled into the tunnel part of the flange there should be open airspace around your entire nipple. It should not touch or rub along the sides of the tunnel. If it does that would indicate that you need a larger size. I would also recommend taking your pump to a lactation professional. They would be able to assess a pumping session and let you know any adjustments that could be made for better results. Best of luck!
