Pumping While Away From Baby

Question:

When I pump I only get 2-3oz nd I don't want it to dry up. My son is with his dad for 2wks. I'm only getting about a bag a day (6oz)right now.i really don't have a schedule right now because we were traveling so much while I was on maternity leave. How do I keep the milk flowing and get more to come out??

Answer:

JaNae,

Thank you for your question. Even if you don’t have a set pumping schedule right now, it may be best to establish one while your baby is with his dad. Breastmilk supply is based on supply and demand. So the more you remove milk from the breast, the more milk your body will make. I would recommend trying to pump every 2-3 hours during the day, and not going longer than 4-6 hours without pumping overnight. After pumping more regularly for a few days you should start to see an increase in the amount you are able to pump. Best of luck!

Kind Regards,
