Mixing Body Temperature and Refrigerated Milk

Question:

I have been adding body temperature breastmilk to refrigerated breast milk to make a whole bottle's worth before I freeze it. The milk has not been in the refrigerator for more than three days before it is frozen. I saw on a forum that this is not safe. May this milk be used?

Answer:

Lana,

it is fine to mix refrigerated milk with fresh milk you have just expressed and then freeze it.  It is not recommended to add fresh or even refrigerated milk to already frozen milk because this can cause the frozen milk to partially thaw so perhaps the person on the forum was confusing those two situations.  Take care and thank you for getting in touch.

Kindest Regards,
