Is it normal for a baby to have diarrhea during nursing and do you have to worry about dehydration? Can I give her water?
Breastmilk is perfectly made to meet your baby's nutritional needs. Because of this it is very easy to digest and moves through baby's digestive system quickly. Breastfeed babies will normally have looser stools than their formula fed counterparts. Baby should be having at least 2-3 mustardy yellow, seedy, poopy diapers each day. Breastmilk is made up of mostly water, so if you are feeding baby whenever you see hunger cues, there is no need for them to get hydration from any other liquids.
