Breast Milk Storage Question

Question:

Hi there!
My husband was painting with an oil based paint over the weekend. He put the paint roller in a loose fitting plastic bag in the refrigerator for a few days while we were out of town. When we came back the refrigerator and freezer smelled like paint. I wanted to know if your freezer bags made of LDP would allow for the transfer of paint vapor through the bags. I am trying to figure out if the milk is safe to feed my baby.

Thank you!

Answer:

Courtney, our bags are made of LDPE (low density polyethylene) and it is our recommendation to discard the milk since the paint smell was so strong and there is a potential that the vapor could have gone through the bag.  I am so sorry as this means a loss of your milk but it is better to be safe in this situation.

Kindest Regards,

Gina Ciagne, CLC
