  • What does the “BPA and BPS Free” Icon on your packaging mean?

The chemical bisphenol-A (BPA) is widely known to be a hormone disrupter. Acting like an estrogen imposter, BPA has been linked to cancer, type 2 diabetes, depression, heart disease and a number of other ailments. BPA can be especially dangerous in pregnancy, infancy and childhood – so much so that many governments around the world have banned BPA in the production of baby bottles (as well as other products).

The chemical bisphenol-S (BPS) is used as a plasticizer by some manufacturers and, in many cases, has been used to replace BPA. BPS is also a hormone disrupter, but is currently allowed for the production of baby bottles and similar products.

Because safety is a top priority for Lansinoh, we have taken proactive measures to ensure our Lansinoh® mOmma® bottles with NaturalWave® Nipples are BPA and BPS free.

Additionally, all our products that may come in contact with breastmilk are BPA and BPS free, as well as our mOmma® toddler line. This includes:

    • Lansinoh® HPA® Lanolin
    • Lansinoh® Clean & Condition Baby wipes
    • Lansinoh® Signature Pro™ Double Electric Breast Pump
    • Lansinoh® Smartpump™ Double Electric Breast Pump
    • Lansinoh® Manual Breast Pump

Is Lansinoh® Breastmilk Storage Bags BPA and BPS Free?

Yes! Because safety is a top priority for Lansinoh, we have taken proactive measures to ensure Lansinoh® Breastmilk Storage Bags is both BPA and BPS Free.

Can I pump directly into the Lansinoh® Breastmilk Storage Bags?

Because Lansinoh® Breastmilk Storage Bags have a double zipper closure, they will not fit securely on the pump so you cannot pump directly into them.

What if my milk smells rotten when I thaw it?

According to the La Leche League’s “Breastfeeding Question and Answer” book: In rare cases, some mothers who have meticulously expressed and frozen their milk for later use have discovered that all their frozen milk has turned rancid (spoiled).  This happens when a mother produces milk that is high in lipase, the enzyme that breaks down fat in the milk. Depending upon the level of lipase in her milk, some mothers notice this rancid smell after their milk has cooled in the refrigerator; others notice it only after the milk has been frozen for a while.

It is suggested that every mother who is planning to freeze her milk should test freeze some batches and thaw it out after a week or so to be sure it has not become rancid.  If it smells rancid, she may need to scald the milk before freezing in the future to deactivate the lipase in her milk.  If the mother finds that after freezing and thawing her milk that it has a rancid smell, she can prevent this from occurring in the future by heating her expressed milk to a scald (bubbling around the edges but not boiling) right after collecting it and then quickly cooling and freezing it.  Scalding inactivates the lipase, however once the milk has acquired the rancid smell, scalding will not help.

For steps on how to address possible lipase issues, consult La Leche League International or visit www.ILCA.org to find a Lactation Consultant in your area.

What is the best way to freeze breastmilk storage bags?

We recommend lying the storage bags flat to freeze them. You can put the breastmilk storage bags directly into the freezer, but because plastic can sometimes stick to the freezer rack (especially if it is slightly wet) we recommend placing the bags in some type of container, such as a plastic storage container, or even a Ziploc® freezer bag.  This will also protect the bags from contact with other frozen items.

    Are your bags recyclable?

Yes, they fall under the LDPE #4 recyclable classifications that include merchandise bags and pharmaceutical packaging.

What type of plastic is used for your bags?

Lansinoh® Breastmilk Storage Bags are 100% virgin plastic and contain no plasticizers.  They are made of FDA approved Food Grade LDPE (low density polyethylene) and LLDPE (linear low density polyethylene) that are three milliliters thick.

Comments about Lansinoh Breastmilk Storage Bags:

I only put 5 to 6 Oz of milk in, froze them flat like the directions said and still half the bags leaked when defrosting them. The seams on the side leaked and the bottom some how got a small hole. I used these for 12 months and will not use them again. Waste of my baby's milk and waste of my money.

    New design guarantees leak everytime

Comments about Lansinoh Breastmilk Storage Bags:

For the past week I have been thawing out previously frozen breastmilk. Without failure, each time the bag leaked. Ounces on ounces of my "liquid gold" have been wasted because of this flaw with the new bag design.

Originally, I was thought that I was doing something wrong. This past weekend, I finally reached my breaking point, was fed up with it, so I decided that I would check to see if anyone else was having this same issue. It is with great relief to read these reviews.

Prior to purchasing new bags, I would have sworn by these bags for storing breastmilk. Now I would not recommend these to anyone!

Until this flaw is fixed, I am forced to go with a different brand of breastmilk storage.

Do not waste your money buying this current design, each time they will leak. Very disappointing to say the least.

    No happy with new design

Comments about Lansinoh Breastmilk Storage Bags:

Just purchased a box of the "new and improved" bags and already I am not happy with them. While we had some leaking/holes from previous bags, we were fortunate that it didn't happen all that often, but when it did, we lost a significant amount 2-3 oz out of 4.

Opening the new bags if very difficult. It requires more time to get the bags fully opened. The three seals take a while to remove a day and once they're off, you still need to separate the perforation even more.

New bags are very thin. I miss the "tissue box" like opening to get to the bags. It allowed me to pull out one bag at a time but now who knows how many will come out at a time. I ended up cutting a slit in the top, hoping I didn't cut any bags.

I hope that I don't have any leaks once I started thawing these bags.

As a mother of twins, my time is very important to me, as well as my breast milk. Don't know why you switched designs. Poor decision.

New design will leave you looking for a new storage product

Comments about Lansinoh Breastmilk Storage Bags:

I've used Lansinoh storage bags for years. I've never had a problem until now, after the the new product design. 1. The bags leak terribly during the thawing process. For an exclusively pumping mom this is frustrating because all of the milk I need for my baby is being thrown away. This causes me to have to work harder to provide milk for my child. 2. The bags have the terrible smell of "plastic"! I feel like I'm pouring my milk into one of my kid's brand new toys. I tend to buy my bags in bulk so.can you say money wasted?!?!? Please fix your product!!!!

These bags are really easy to use. I liked everything about them and the brand...until the time it comes to thaw the milk, Every bag that I have thawed out in the last 2 weeks have leaked on the sides. It is highly disappointing as breast milk is liquid gold to children.

Comments about Lansinoh Breastmilk Storage Bags:

These bags are terrible! I have had so many leak. They all break in the lower corners of the bag. I donated milk and the milk donor had so many leaky bags I felt so bad. Never will buy this brand of bag ever again. So incredibly frustrating when you work so hard for the milk...

Comments about Lansinoh Breastmilk Storage Bags:

This was my first purchase of the storage bags. The third bag I used had a pre existing hole or tear so when pouring my milk into it, I lost over an ounce of my precious milk. I'm extremely disappointed.

    So much lost milk...

    By

Comments about Lansinoh Breastmilk Storage Bags:

At first I loved these bags- I have over 50 bags of milk in my freezer. A couple of weeks ago I filled a bag with 4 oz of milk, set it down on the counter so I could fill 3 more. I look back and there is breastmilk all over my counter. I pick up the bag and it's leaking! It was completely sealed at the opening as there was no milk coming gout. It was right under the seal of the bag. I was pretty upset because by the time I noticed, I had lost over half an ounce of breastmilk, which as all mother's know, is liquid gold. I thought for sure it was my fault, so I poured the milk in a new bag, threw that one out, and moved on. This morning, I had 5 bottles of milk in my refrigerator to bag up and freeze from the past few days of pumping. The very first bag I used leaked another HALF OUNCE. The second bag I used started leaking, I found the source, and stopped it in time. I bagged both of those bottles, started a third and it was fine. I started bagging the fourth bottle and THAT LEAKED TOO. At this point I had had enough. I lost milk from 3 out of 5 bottles of breastmilk. I took out a whole new pack of bags and bagged the milk, checking each bag before use. I feel like I shouldn't need to make sure a BREASTMILK bag leaks before I put BREASTMILK in it!! That's the whole point! I'm more than upset that I've lost over an ounce of milk from these bags. I know it doesn't seem like that much, but when I'm only pumping 2 ounces from each breast, giving up a night feeding and giving formula so I can stockpile milk for my return to work, over an ounce is too much milk to lose. I'm very disappointed and I truly don't believe these storage bags are "the strongest breastmilk storage bags on the market."

This bag was 6.5 ounces of milk originally, but I used 4 ounces of water to show. All of the other bags were 3-4 ounces. The video is using the bag I used for the milk, but with green food coloring and water to show where the leak is coming from and was on all of the bags.

    New Bag Design

    By

    from Buckhannon, WV

Comments about Lansinoh Breastmilk Storage Bags:

Why change what isn't broken? I prefer the old bags over the new ones and would recommend the old bags to anyone, but the new design is a different story. I still had some old ones left before I bought my most recent box and to my surprise they were different. Not just the part where you tear it open, but literally the whole bag. The old bags were built "tough" and the new ones are just too thin. Never in the past 8 months had I ever ripped a hole in one of my bags until today. I used little to no force when trying to open the bag and it ripped at the top zip lock. I'm very disappointed in the new design & wish they would have just keep them the same.
