Low Milk Supply

Question:

My son has failure to thrive at 2 weeks old due to low supply. He is now a month old and I have tried extra pumping plus pumping after feedings and also taking Fenugreek but my supply is still low. He still takes 4 oz of supplemental formula after breastfeeding. Is there anything else I can try?

Answer:

Nicole,

It really sounds as if you are doing all of the right things to try and boost your supply. At the breast feeding and adding pumping sessions are the best ways to increase supply, because the more you are asking your body to make milk, the more it will make. If possible I would recommend seeing a lactation consultant in person. They may be able to identify some underlying breastfeeding or pumping issues that could be attributing to your low supply.

All the best,
