Difficulty Latching

I recently had my daughter on Thursday and have been trying to breast feed ever since. I have flat nipples so I have been using a nipple shield to help with latching. That seems to help a little but lately i can't seem to get her latched and have a hard time expressing milk. My milk supply finally came in but I still can't express anything. I have tried pumping and for how full they feel I cannot get anything out. If you could help me I would appreciate it!

It's possible that the flanges for your pump are not fitting you properly. When your nipple is pulled into the tunnel part of the flange there should be open space around your entire nipple. It shouldn’t touch or rub along the sides at all. If you do notice it touching this would indicate you need a larger flange. It can also sometimes take a while for a new mom’s body to adjust to pumping. Try hand expressing a little prior to pumping to trigger a letdown. Also keep trying to get baby to latch. Having baby feed at the breast is the best way to keep your supply up.
